The SUPERFROG Triathlon Course

Course Maps

The swim is 1.2 miles in the open ocean. The water temperature will vary from the low 50s to the high 60s. In recent years, it’s been between 65-69. Wetsuits are strongly recommended. The bike course will be a flat and fast 56 mile bike course that will consist of four loops on Highway 75. Safety certified helmets are required for the bike portion of the race. The run is a 13.1 mile course on soft sand, hard sand, and hard pavement. The run will be composed of two full loops on the beach and Silver Strand Training Complex.

We don’t have an elevation map as the bike and run courses are just about sea level. The bike course however, has an overpass that rises up about 18 ft above sea level. Outside of the two turnarounds on the bike course, the road is straight and flat.

The SUPERFROG is generally hot and sometimes windy. A few times we have had a storm moving out of the southwest causing large surf. Generally the surf is 3-4 ft. The run conditions will depend on the tide, low tide is a better running surface. Low tide for this year is 11:44am, so the run surface should be pretty good. About 5 out of the 13.1 mile run will be on the sand. It’s a circuit style race with the transition area and finish line in the middle.

This is the 36th year of the Superfrog half-Ironman Triathlon. This race is not for the faint of heart.

1.2 Mile Pacific Ocean Swim/ 56 Mile Flat Bike Ride on Highway 75/ 13.1 Mile Mixed Terrain (trails, pavement, gravel, sand) Run

IRONMAN Active Duty Military Division

IRONMAN Active Duty Military Division

Reminders about this special division:
1. It is mandatory when you check in for your packet that you show your Active Duty Military ID card.
2. It is mandatory when you check in for you to fill out a special form with information to confirm Active Duty status. (ex: Country of service, Branch, Command, Command name & contact info)
3. IRONMAN is in charge of the roll down process and will have a representative on site to answer questions pertaining to the 20 IWC KONA slots.

What is this division?

As you all may or may not know, there will be 20 qualifying slots for the 2015 IRONMAN World Championship (Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i) up for grabs for active duty military at the 2014 SUPERFROG on September 28. They will be awarded to active duty male and female finishers as defined by IRONMAN’s eligibility rules. Registration procedures for these slots are below.

Essentially, registration remains the same through www.active.com and www.superfrogtriathlon.com.

We will have two military divisions:

SUPERFROG Military Divisionis, as in the past, open to all military: active duty, retired, reserves, DOD, and veterans. SUPERFROG awards will be given to the top three male and female award winners in this division.

IRONMAN Military Division is open to all active duty Military only, both U.S. and foreign, and male and female. Slots for the 2015 IRONMAN World Championship slots will be presented immediately following the SUPERFROG Awards Ceremony after the 2014 SUPERFROG Triathlon.

Prior to race day, we will allow all active duty military registered racers in the current SUPERFROG Military division to switch to the new IRONMAN Military Division if they would like to.

IRONMAN/SUPERFROG SLOT ALLOCATION

There will be 20 qualifying slots to the 2015 IRONMAN World Championship (October 10, 2015) for eligible active duty Military personnel at the 2014 SUPERFROG Triathlon. Be prepared to pay the $850.00 USD entry fee with credit card ONLY and show an active duty military identification card. We will NOT accept cash or check as a valid form of payment.

Note: Slot Allocation and Rolldown will be completed together in the same ceremony for all IRONMAN events.

NEW SLOT ALLOCATION/ROLLDOWN POLICY

Athletes MUST claim their slot in-person during the IRONMAN World Championship Allocation and Rolldown Ceremony on Sunday, September 28 at 1 p.m., immediately following the Awards. We recommend being at least 15 minutes early. Be prepared to pay the $850.00 USD entry fee with credit card ONLY. We will not accept cash or check as a valid form of payment.

Prior to race day, at least one slot shall be tentatively allocated to each Military age group category (both male and female). Final Slot Allocation will be determined on race day based on the number of official starters in each Military age group. The Military age groups for the 2014 SUPERFROG Triathlon are 18-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50+.

If there are no starters in a particular Military age group, then that slot will be moved to the next calculated Military age group within the gender. Final Slot Allocation shall be representative of the actual number of Military age group starters in each category in the race.

Slot Allocation and Rolldown will be completed together in the same ceremony for all IRONMAN events. Please check the schedule of events for time and location. Anyone who wishes to claim a Rolldown slot must attend the IRONMAN World Championship Slot Allocation and Rolldown Ceremony and claim their slot in person. If an automatic qualifier in a Military age group chooses not to take the slot, does not attend the IRONMAN World Championship Slot Allocation and Rolldown Ceremony, or has already qualified, the next eligible finisher in that Military age group may claim the slot that has rolled down.

If there are no more eligible finishers in a particular Military age group or no other finishers in attendance at the IRONMAN World Championship Slot Allocation and Rolldown Ceremony in that Age Group, that unclaimed slot will be reallocated to another Military age group within the gender based on the athletes-to-slots ratio. The Military age group within the gender with the largest athletes-to-slots ratio will receive the first reallocated slot, followed by the next largest ratio receiving the second re-allocated slot (if applicable), and so on.
